Ave Maria Grotto
Located in Cullman, Alabama the grotto was built by Brother Joseph Zoettl. Over a period of 60 years, he created 125 miniature replicas of great religious and cultural sites. Brother Joe saw beauty in other people's junk and used old broken glass, marbles, seashells, cold-cream jars and a birdcage (for the dome of his miniature St. Peter's Basilica). The intricacy of his work cannot truly be appreciated in these photos, but they do give you a sense of the place. The highlight of our day!
