Tooling around Santa Fe and on to Arizona.

Trekking to the Santuario de Guadalupe in the heart of Santa Fe.

BT provides us with a brief history of the Virgin of Guadalupe:

"Did you know that the Virgin of Guadalupe is considered to be the first known piece of artwork to feature the radiating sun behind the head?

It is thought (by those who think about these kind of things) that not only did that piece of art influence most Christian religious painting but that all the sunbursts you see in today's advertising (FREE!! NEW & IMPROVED!! ORDER NOW!!, etc.) are directly descended from that original 15th century Mexican fresco.

Are you thinking TSP logo?

Ahhh. There she is. Sorry for the glare, no flash photography allowed.

Cool detail of the Sacred Bleeding Heart of Jesus. We bought one for our new place.

El Santuario de Chimayo about an hour north of Santa Fe. Allegedly a farmer had a vision to dig the earth in a certain spot and found some bones and stuff. He placed them in a shrine in this church's nave.

The soil in this hole by the church's prayer room is said to contain healing powers. Jennifer stocked up on some healing-soil.

Seems to be working!

And the Chili's great too!

Visit to Los Alamos, NM. This is where they created the atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project. Here's a replica of Little Boy, the nickname for the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Lots of A-bomb pop culture references. Hey, look! "Dagwood Splits the Atom"!

In the Jemez National Forest, this is Valley Grande. A huge, natural plain formed by a volcano. Its about 35 miles to the other side.

A scenic trail in the Jemez Forest. Hey this is New Mexico, isn't this supposed to be a desert?

Backwoods Jennifer

They've got chipmunks up here. We think this may be Rocky's long lost cousin...

The sun sets in Arizona.
